An established insurance business with approximately $151 million in business and an A- AM Best rating is expanding into new specialty markets. With offices in Detroit and New Hampshire, the organization is building out new underwriting functions and is seeking a Senior Underwriter to lead its inland marine and marine offering. The role is fully remote.

The role

You will shape and grow the environmental and energy product, combining hands-on underwriting with a strong focus on new business. You’ll help define the appetite, build broker relationships and establish the processes needed to develop a sustainable book.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting strategy and new business production across environmental, energy and related lines.
\n
• Develop and maintain broker and producer relationships, identify target markets and actively pursue new opportunities.
\n
• Evaluate submissions, assess exposures, structure coverage and terms, and price risks in line with the organization’s appetite.
\n
• Help design the product offering, underwriting guidelines, workflows and tools as the function is established.
\n
• Monitor portfolio performance and market conditions, adjusting underwriting decisions and growth plans as needed.

• Collaborate with leadership and internal partners on reinsurance, capacity and portfolio development.

Experience

\n
• Ideally 6–10 years of underwriting experience in environmental, energy or closely related lines.
\n
• Demonstrated success generating and underwriting new business.
\n
• Sound technical judgment across relevant environmental and energy risks and coverages.
\n
• Experience building a book, launching a product or helping establish an underwriting function is highly valued.
\n
• Reinsurance experience is helpful, but not required.
\n
• Strong broker-market relationships and the ability to work independently in a remote role.
