Job Description

Equity Sales Trader | Institutional Coverage, US Equity Markets

Coda Search | New York, NY

Coda Search is proud to partner with a global financial services firm in their search for an Equity Sales Trader to lead institutional client coverage across US equity markets. This role suits a trader who has built a durable network of institutional relationships and desires a respected platform to continue expanding their book.

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

Compensation: $175k-$250k

Bonus: Discretionary annual bonus tied to individual and firm performance

Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; retirement plan with employer contribution; paid parental leave; wellness and employee assistance programs

Schedule: Periodic travel for client engagement

What's in it for you?

  • Built-in platform: Step into an established institutional client base and a research and execution infrastructure built to support it, rather than starting from zero.
  • Revenue upside: Compensation scales with the flow and relationships you generate, with a bonus structure tied directly to performance.
  • Cross-functional visibility: Work alongside research, capital markets, and execution teams, giving you a broader seat at the table than a coverage-only mandate.
  • Stability with growth: Join a firm with a long-standing presence actively investing in expanding their research coverage.
  • Autonomy: Prioritize your own book, resource allocation, and client strategy with meaningful independence.

What will your day look like?

  • Client relationship management: Maintain and deepen relationships with institutional clients, delivering market insight that shapes their trading strategy.
  • New business development: Identify and onboard new institutional clients, expanding the firm's footprint in US equity markets.
  • Order flow generation: Drive secondary and primary market flow, including block trading opportunities sourced through client relationships.
  • Market commentary: Serve as a go-to resource on US equity market dynamics, translating complex conditions into actionable guidance for clients.
  • Cross-team collaboration: Partner with research, sales, and execution colleagues to deliver a consistent, high-value client experience.
  • Account prioritization: Allocate time and resources across accounts and products to maximize revenue generation.
  • Full client lifecycle ownership: Manage relationships from initial outreach through onboarding, first trade, and ongoing account management.
  • Regulatory compliance: Operate within applicable conduct rules, internal policies, and regulatory frameworks at all times.

Who are you?

  • You have deep market expertise. You understand US equity market dynamics, trading strategies, and regulatory frameworks well enough to guide client decision-making in real time.
  • You've built a real network. You bring an established, portable book of institutional relationships and a track record of converting them into flow.
  • You perform under pressure. You've operated in fast-paced, high-stakes trading environments and make sound decisions when conditions move quickly.
  • You communicate with credibility. You build trust easily with both clients and internal stakeholders, and you can hold your own in a room of sophisticated investors.
  • You're commercially minded. You think in terms of revenue generation and resource prioritization, not just relationship maintenance.
  • You hold the right licenses. You carry the required industry licenses and credentials for institutional equity sales trading.
